Two Oceans Marathon
We are proud to announce that in 2009, Waste Plan will be responsible for the waste management of one of Cape Town’s most prestigious sporting events, The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon.

Today there is an ever increasing awareness of pollution and global warming as well as the impact that we as humans have on our environment.
With the Two Oceans commonly known as the world’s most beautiful marathon, we realise just how precious the beautiful surroundings of the Cape Peninsula is to us. With this in mind we are planning to do our bit for the environment by changing the way waste is managed at the Two Oceans dramatically. With a recycling target of 75% we will attempt to make the 2009 Two Oceans the greenest marathon the Cape has ever seen.
On the route there will be cleaning teams cleaning every stretch of road from start to finish. From here the waste will be taken to sorting facility at UCT, set up especially for the Two Oceans.

Waste Plan and the Enviromark are jointly aiming for a 75% recycling rate at the 2009 Two Oceans Marathon.
Here all recyclables will be sorted and only the minimum will be thrown away.
At the finish there will be clearly marked recycling stations where everyone can recycle their waste items.
The stations will be cleaned regularly with the waste been taken to the same sorting facility. However, there is no way that we can do this massive task on our own; therefore we please need the help and support of every runner and spectator. So please think twice and RECYCLE!
More information about the Two Oceans Marathon is available on the official website.
