A:
● Recyclables are sorted and sent to verified recycling partners.
● Organic waste is converted into compost or biogas (where feasible).
● Non-recyclables are minimised through recovery before final disposal.
● Hazardous waste is reduced as far as possible and sent for safe disposal
A: Yes. We promote at-source-separation to maximise recycling efficiency. We provide colour-coded bins and training to support proper sorting, the main focus of this is to reduce cross-contamination in order to maximise on rebate and save costs. We place a dedicated team on your site to sort and separate all recyclable and recoverable streams.
A: Yes. WastePlan offers compliant collection and disposal services for fluorescent tubes, CFLs, and other light bulbs containing hazardous substances like mercury. These items are classified as hazardous waste because of high mercury content and must be treated accordingly. We ensure they are handled, transported, and processed at licensed facilities in accordance with South African environmental regulations.
A: Yes, we offer specialised collection and compliant disposal for Type 0-4 hazardous waste such as liquids, sludges, solid hazardous waste, electronic waste, chemicals, expired pharmaceuticals, and batteries, all handled in accordance with the Waste Classification and Management Regulations (WCMR).
A: We recycle all mainstream recyclables and also work with various offtakes to reuse and recycle more complex streams that are not widely recycled, to optimise landfill diversion.
A: We manage a wide range of waste streams, including:
● General waste (non-recyclables)
● Dry recyclables (paper, plastic, glass, metal)
● Organic waste (food scraps, compostables, garden waste)
● Hazardous waste (e-waste, batteries, expired pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and medical waste requiring compliant handling)
● Health Care Risk Waste
3. Scheduling & Service Issues
A: Collections may be affected by major South African holidays. Clients are notified in advance of any schedule changes.
A: Contact us immediately via phone or email. Missed pickups are rare, but we’ll address the issue promptly. We have a 24-hour support system in place to log and respond to service issues quickly, ensuring minimal disruption to your operations.
A: We offer flexible schedules, including daily, weekly, or on-demand pickups depending on waste volume and business requirements.
A: We begin with a waste audit to assess your current waste streams and identify opportunities for improvement. Based on the findings, we develop a customised proposal. Once you sign up, we proceed with the setup, which includes placing the appropriate bins and scheduling collections. From there, your service starts, and we provide ongoing tracking and reporting to ensure full transparency and continuous improvement.
A: Recycling-only collection services are available for clients generating more than 1 ton of recyclables per month. For smaller volumes, we recommend dropping recyclables off at our nearest MRF or considering a full-service waste management solution that includes both general and recyclable waste streams.
A: WastePlan does not provide off-site recycling. However, clients are welcome to bring their pre-sorted recyclables directly to one of our registered Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs). We offer on-site sorting to maximise recycling rebates and avoid double handling of materials. This approach also ensures accurate reporting on each site’s volumes, as it eliminates the risk of stream mix-ups.
