Waste Management Services | Our Profit Model

Methodology

At WastePlan, we see waste management services as a partnership, working with you to improve both on-site waste management and off-site waste solutions in a cost-effective way. By assessing your waste streams, we create a strategy that maximises waste recycling services while ensuring compliance.

We provide a transparent data platform, giving you and your team real-time access to your waste data, sustainability reports, and compliance certificates. This ensures accountability and helps you track progress toward your zero waste to landfill goals.

Waste Management Services | Our Profit Model

Our Profit Model

Unlike traditional waste management service providers, WastePlan does not own a landfill. Instead, we focus on processing waste on-site, reducing reliance on landfills and increasing recycling services. Last year, we diverted 76% of our on-site clients’ waste, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.

Our profit model is designed to reward us for reducing waste, not dumping it. This approach ensures that we prioritise waste segregation, organic waste recycling, and industrial waste services, helping businesses transition to zero waste to landfill strategies.

Waste Management Services | ESG/Reporting

transparency, they’re demanding it.  Waste management services play a critical role in your ESG performance.

Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa (IWMSA) and Organics Recycling Association of South Africa (ORASA).

Stop guessing at your ESG performance and start measuring it.

Waste Management in South Africa

WastePlan operates on a national scale, delivering integrated waste management across major provinces including Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Northern Cape, Free State and North West. We support corporate, municipal and industrial clients regardless of location.

South Africa generates 122–125 million tonnes of solid waste each year, with up to 90% sent to landfills. Only around 10% is diverted via recycling or reuse, despite a 60–70% potential rate under the National Waste Management Strategy.

  • National waste generation: 122–125 Mt/year, with 90% still landfilled.

  • <10% is recycled or recovered, despite a ≥60% diversion potential.

Waste Management Services | Waste Streams

Waste Streams

Here is what happens to the waste:

  • Wet Waste/Organic Waste is separated from the Non-Recyclable or contaminated general waste.
  • Organic/Wet waste can be used for Composting.
  • General Waste is removed to a registered landfill site for disposal.
  • Organic Waste
  • Food Waste
  • Liquid Waste

All of the above is used for composting.

Recyclables are sorted per category

  • Cardboard
  • Paper
  • Plastic

  • Steel

Sorted Materials are collected on site and taken to a Material Recycling Facility (MRF) where it is baled. Materials are then sold to recyclers.

Our clients receive a REBATE for all recyclable materials sold from their site.

There are 4 Classes of Hazardous Waste

  1. Explosives
  2. Gases
